Empress

Empress is a small scale printmaking studio that produces limited edition small scale artist books and original linocuts, cards and notebooks located in Belgrave, Melbourne.

The work I make is centred on my printmaking practice with my designs and images based on motifs that imply the landscape of my heart and body. I create large scale finely engraved linocuts and print these by hand using an etching press. My books tell stories about loss, love and the things that are present in my life and are inspired by artists such as Barbara Hanrahan and the text narratives are printed using hand cut type.. My works have been shown in the Castlemaine Experimental Print Prize and the Geelong Gallery Print Award in 2023. I have a love for Japanese translucent papers and combine these with hand sewn elements in my artist books.
